“God and Sex: Now We Get Both” – a profound journey that delves into the deep realms of spirituality and sensuality, aiming to unravel the cultural division between the sacred and the profane. I had the great pleasure of working on the design for the book “God and Sex: Now We Get Both” by the globally renowned teachers Mark Whitwell, Rosalind Atkinson, and Andy Raba, published by Naklada Sumek, with a Croatian translation by Domagoj Orlic. I had the honour of crafting both the book cover and layout design of the Croatian edition, Bog I Seks.

BOOK DESIGN

The cover of the book serves as a visual introduction to its profound content. It features bold black typography & strong graphic elements in a deep, muted bright orange. The decision to utilise a single colour was intentional, reflecting the simplicity & power of the themes explored in the book. The creative use of negative space & curves on the cover, which mirror our body parts (especially when flaps are opened), adds a subtle yet powerful layer to the overall design. My visual solution for this book cover emphasises the integral connection between the body & the divine, particularly in the context of the book’s exploration of God and Sex.

I tailored the layout design with neurodivergent readers in mind. The font is friendly, easy to read, clean, round, & soft, fostering an approachable reading experience. Throughout the book’s interior, a single graphic element, the sun – the source of all, weaves its way, subtly reinforcing the overarching themes. This design choice serves to enhance the depth of the book, symbolically combining the bodily & divine elements, inviting readers into a visually rich & intellectually engaging exploration.
